In Ground House, An Alternative To Artificial Lights In The Middle Of Nature

The house in the picture is located in Marbella, in the province of Chile, in an area with very beautiful and mountainous landscape. It was a project by Nature Design Studio and it’s a sort of hybrid between a house and a greenhouse. The name of the project sounds pretty dramatic when you look at it from the outside but, on the inside, it all forms a very cozy and relaxing environment.

This modern house was built for a client who wanted a quiet and tranquil getaway place where he could get away from everything that’s thrown at him. There were several challenges with this project. For example, the landscape falls right in the middle of this forest. The surroundings are not very friendly either. The houses are not particularly spacious and the spaces are not very flexible either. These elements have to be modified if the client is a new to wanting to such a house.

The structure of the house is a combination of geodesic structures placed at small distances from the other structures. These randomly-detailed circular structures play an important role in the overall design of the house. They create anoticeable visual continuum, giving the impression of a larger forest unfolding all around.

The house is oriented towards the north, near the edge where the forest is present. The intimate area is a continuation of this edge and its design is simple. The whole house is basically surrounded by lush vegetation, thus making it feel almost terraced. A minimalist, walled garden sits off the living room and the deck.

The minimalist modern décor and the pure, comfortable colors are characteristics of a contemporary retreat. They give the house a very inviting feel. To complement the minimalist and raw nature of the forms and spaces, earthy colors were used for everything. The vertical and horizontal lines are beautifully complemented by the use of textures and materials.
